Dr. Porter is Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the McGill University Health Centre, as well as President of the Réseau universitaire intégré de santé McGill.

Dr. Porter received his medical degree from Cambridge University, his M.B.A. from the University of Tennessee and certificates in Medical Management from Harvard University and the University of Toronto. He received his Diplomate Status and Fellowship in Health Care Administration from the American Academy of Medical Administrators.

As an oncologist, Dr. Porter's major areas of academic endeavour relate to the medical uses of radioactive isotopes and the treatment of prostate cancer. He is credited with introducing several new technologies to his chosen field, including Strontium-89, a bone-seeking isotope for the treatment of cancer having metastasized to bone. He has held professorships in cancer medicine in four universities and is the only Canadian to have been President of the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO), the national body representing Radiation Oncology across the United States.
Dr. Porter’s extensive international background includes medical practice, business and academic leadership positions in North America, Europe and Africa. He has been a consultant to the World Health Organization and the World Bank, and has helped establish medical programmes around the globe. Dr. Porter continues to serves on the Editorial Board of thirteen scientific journals and has to his credit more than 300 scholarly works in peer-reviewed journals, chapters in books and in conference proceedings.
